These Boys What a Threet They Are! |Family Beach Portraits

No there is no typo in the title. The last name of this family is Threet and I knew their father, Jamie,  as a kid growing up. Being the best friend of my nephews intertwined him in to our family. When he showed up after years of not seeing him at our annual family camping reunion, it was a nice surprise. In fact, one of the twins is named after my nephew and my son. A combination of their first names to make the name Timothy Cole because of the special relationship those two cousins have together. For this very reason is why there has always been a special place in my heart for kids I never even met. So this summer was a treat to finally meet the Threet boys. When Jamie asked, “Aunt Jill could you snap a few pictures of the boys?” How could I say no? And how if you know me could I just snap a few? This was a chance for me to spend a little time getting to know these boys.  What better way then a mini shoot?

All three of them are full boy and full of energy. I loved seeing the difference between the twins and the difference of the younger brother. One of the twins just liked to be silly, the other one was very accommodating but you could tell he wanted to get it over with.  The baby was all about the cool, serious guy shot. Despite the differances you can tell they are brothers. Having four brothers of my own and two boys there is just a special bond between brothers. Most of the time it is unspoken bond.  But for some reason most brothers and hopefully these boys as well will always understand their brothers like only brothers can. When I look at these photos I see things that are timeless: childhood, summertime, brotherly fun.

At the beginning of the session none of them really wanted to get their pictures taken. There was so many other fun things to do at the campground and dressing up in your wedding clothes a day early for pictures was not what they had planned. But after a bribe of ice cream and a fantastic sunset swim the boys actually enjoyed themselves. In fact, the best compliment for me was that after the session they all wanted to become photographers. That night they sat around the campground pretending to be photographers. Taking time to direct the others and funny enough get in different positions as they pretended to take photos. It brought such a smile to my face and a warmth in to my soul to know that their session was so fun they wanted to be a photographer. I hope one of them keeps the passion.  Hopefully, I will get to see these boys again sooner then later. And maybe one day they will be taking my picture.

Ally is One | Halloween Family Portrait with the Borellos

It’s hard to believe Ally is ONE!  I had the joy of photographing her a few weeks after she was born and I can’t believe it was already a year ago. We had so much fun heading out to the Pumpkin Patch at Uesugi Farms.  I always enjoy the chance to spend time with the Borellos and to see how their family changes and grows. Here’s just a few pictures from their session!  Remember to leave them some love so they know you stopped by.

Life with Sisters | Children’s Portrait Session

This was such a fun session for me since I get to watch these three kids daily from my kitchen window.  Sometimes their antics with each other is better then any dinner show I could of paid for.  I was so excited when I finally had the chance to photograph them and the hidden secret that their oldest has to live with……. Life with two little sisters!!!!!!  These photos just make me giggle.  The first one I think is my favorite.

New Wedding, Engagement, and Boudoir site is live| Leap Year Tradition

Well this is the year people! A year when you get that extra day to catch up on something.  You get an extra 24 hours that you don’t normally have. I’d love to know what your going to do with your extra time.  What is leap day and why do we have it?  The geeky version of why we have leap year is so that the Gregorian Calender ( that most of the world uses) lines up properly with the earth’s rotation around the sun.  The more fun and romantic version is that women can propose to men.  Myths are that if a woman proposed to a man on Leap day he couldn’t say no.  It was a way for a woman to take control of her own love life and to help along those men who were sitting on the pot a little too long if you know what I mean.  This was a tradition that was pretty rampant until the 1960′s and free love took control of the world.

Well for me no matter why I’m thankful for the extra day. Here at Jill Johnson photography it is a very exciting Leap Day because we are launching the beginning of our new sites. Yes sites, you heard me correctly.  We will be launching our new wedding, engagement, and boudoir site today which can be found at  Hopefully in the next week or two our new site will be completed as well. (It is currently live as well as a teaser but is still under construction).  On top of all that our blog has been experiencing a new overhaul and will shine in it’s full glory with all it’s bells and whistles.  It has been very exciting and busy around here as we worked on creating a new  interactive and user friendly site.

Now is all of it complete?  No, but honestly, when is a site ever completed?  It is like a woman’s wardrobe constantly changing and evolving.  But I would love to point out some of the things about these new sites.  First of all you can still find all of my work at  Here you’ll find a landing page that can direct you to the site you are most interested in.   It will also give you a sneak peak of some of our most recent gossip, news, and photos on the blog preview strip, and last but not least special flower buttons for you to share what you found with your friends, families, and social medias. Keep checking back because we are still adding more things to all of these sites as they evolve but for now we felt it was a great teaser.

The blog and the kid/creative portrait site will also have some of these great features as well as some other little tidbits that we’ll share when they are closer to completion.

Most of all I would love to thank all the people who have helped me put this all together.  It would have been released on the next leap year if not for their amazing help.  Pamela Francisco of Pamela Francisco Illustration, Eric at Big Folio, Ken Leslie (blog builder extraordinaire),Luke Goodman for the films, Andy Mark, and of course all my fellow photo peeps for their support and suggestions.

I hope you enjoy looking over the new look and I would love to hear what you think!  Stuff you love! Stuff you would still like to see! Suggestions will be taken in to consideration :).  I love what I do and I”m so excited to be sharing just a little bit about my world.

Family Fun Fall Portraits | Brian, Tracy, and Ben

I’ve mentioned it numerous time but I love being able to watch and photograph my previous bride and grooms growing families. It is so fun to see how everything changes from two in love to watching that love grow for another little person.  I enjoyed so much spending time with little Ben.  He was so close to walking that I wanted to capture it for them.  I bet just in the couple of weeks since we’ve done these photos he’s off and running.  Most babies give us about 20 minutes and he did great as he played with mom and dad and was just fascinated with the world around him at one of the local parks.  He really liked the big red bridge!  Congrats to Brian and Tracy on such a cute little guy.
