Introducing Maya the baby from the beautiful henna belly shoot.

posted in Baby/Maternity on Saturday 20 March 2010 at 6:00 pm

The beautiful Maya has entered from her highly decorated mother’s stomach and she’s a beauty. She is quite the little Diva and really didn’t not want the paparazzi shooting her very much.  But finally she gave us a few short minutes before she got some more beauty sleep.  You have to love baby shoots because you just never know what will happen but I think we got some lovelies of this little one.   I’m looking forward to photographing her some more because she will only get more beautiful.  For those of you who missed her mother’s maternity session please scroll down.

I love photos like this when you can really tell how small they are.  Look at the size of her daddy’s hand next to her little noggin.  It really is amazing how fast that changes.  Her head is only that size for a couple of weeks and will soon be bigger then daddy’s hand.

Celebrating Cole I can’t believe he is ten!

It is so hard to believe that my oldest has traveled in to the double digits today.    I know you always here how time flies and they’ll be gone before you know it and I now officially believe them.  Cole is a wonderful kid and I’m so glad that he is  1/2 mine.  For those of you who know Cole he has a heart of gold, a contagious laugh, and is an animal whisper.  I don’t think he has ever met an animal that doesn’t warm up to him.  He is wicked smart (sometimes too much for his own good) and so very creative.  He is the kid that doesn’t mind being by himself.  In fact, it usually turns out great.  Is creative mind cracks me up because he loves to build and create things.  I can’t tell if I have an artist or engineer in the making orboth if we are lucky a very creative, artistic engineer.  Or we may just have the next screenwriter or writer of all times if you have ever read or heard one of his stories.  I always joke” It is to bad our kid lacks a personality, NOT”.

Below are some of the creations he has made lately from the school mission project, to his duct tape hat, and the ever impressive bow and arrow that actually works.  The kid made it out of bamboo, a stick, Christmas string, and duck feathers that a good friend gave him for the purpose of his arrows.   He is amazing and I am so happy to be his Momma!  He makes me proud.

Oh yeah and his new love, Flag football which he had for his 10th birthday party. I loved it and couldn’t of picked a better theme.  Coming from Michigan the Big Ten is huge.  But he wouldn’t let me get the shirts in Blue and Gold and White and Green.  He never lets me do anything :) .  Love you Cole.

Wish Upon a Wedding “National Raise Awareness Week”

posted in For Photographers,Misc.,Weddings, press on Friday 5 March 2010 at 12:16 pm

Just wanted to share a little bit with you about a great organization that has just started up here in the bay area.  It is called Wish Upon a Wedding.  Starting on Monday is National Raise Awareness week for the organziation. The purpose of Wish Upon a Wedding is to produce weddings and civil union ceremonies at destinations across the USA for terminally ill individuals, regardless of sexual orientation. Below is the first recipient’s story and her wedding is only a few days away. With twenty chapters across the nation, we are ready to begin making dreams come true.  To find out more about them and ways you might be able to help you can find them on the web, facebook, and twitter.

In 2002, Florence had moved from Oklahoma City to be with her mother in the San Francisco Bay Area. After moving there, she decided to stay.

A few years later, in 2006 Florence was on her way to a birthday party, to hang out with her girlfriends. As usual, she waited for the Route 93 Bus. That evening, Michael the bus driver noticed Florence and began a conversation with her. Route 93 was his regular route, and Florence and Michael began to see more and more of each other.

He asked for her phone number, and eventually called her. After playing hard to get, Florence finally decided to answer the phone. For their first date, Michael asked Florence out to dinner in San Francisco. They ate dinner by the wharf, watching the boats come in and out of the bay, and they began to fall in love.

Michael told Florence he’d found his other half and wanted to be her husband.

When Florence was diagnosed with cancer, she worried Michael might leave. But he was always there for her, supporting her throughout the entire experience, including a double mastectomy.

Michael proposed to Florence by saying “I want to make you my wife” and “make our family official”. He let her know that no matter what happens, he loves her and wants to be with her unconditionally.

One of the most unique maternity shoots ever| Henna belly blessing

posted in Baby/Maternity,Family,Flamingo on Wednesday 3 March 2010 at 9:27 am

We had so much fun shooting Teresa in her last couple of weeks of pregnancy.  She wanted to do a classic beauty shot but she also wanted to try something a little different. She mentioned that she had heard of getting henna on your belly when your around 8 months pregnant.  Well, I went on a search and was referred to a wonderful woman, Ravie Kattaura (510-453-4393).  Her work was amazing and she was one of the fastest artist I’ve ever seen.  I’ve seen Henna done before but never from such a talented artist and never done on a pregnant belly.  It was really beautiful and I loved the colors and glitter she added to the design.  I also loved how Joe, the dad, was all excited about getting his henna done on his arms.  We asked about the blessing and was told that the  patterns used are acknowledged to bring health, protection, and luck to the new mother and her child.  I just know that we were blessed to be part of it all and to be able to create some beautiful images of their first pregnancy together.

As always this turned out to be a fun and adventurous shoot as Tia and I lugged the bed and headboard out in to the grassy field, caused only a slight traffic jam as everyone was interested in what we were doing, and I didn’t even mention that little case of trespassing.  But the field was just to pretty to pass by.   Better yet, a client of mine drove by and yelled my name out. I had to laugh that someone even recognized us because it really wasn’t a part of town that I frequented very often.  She called later and said I saw someone with furniture in a field taking pictures and thought it had to be Jill Johnson.
